Old Fashion Lemonade

by Permanent Posies on January 12, 2011

Is there anything better to drink than old fashion lemonade.  I don’t mean Crystal Light, which is all I seem to drink, when it comes to Lemonade.  I know that stuff isn’t good for me because it has Aspertame in it….though I still like the taste and calorie content.

No, I am talking about the kind with real lemons and real sugar.  That isn’t something that I normally make but when you receive a box full of lemons (click here) in the mail, a splurge is in order.

OLD FASHION LEMONADE

8 cups of water
1 1/3-1 1/2 cup of sugar
1 cup of lemon juice (fresh), about 4.5-5 lemons

Dissolve the sugar in the water by stirring.  Juice the lemons.  Pour through strainer to remove seeds and pulp and add to water/sugar and stir.

I decided to really treat myself and pulled out a pitcher that I painted.  Before I tried my hand at oil painting, I did a little china painting.

OLD FASHION ARNOLD PALMER

1/2 glass of above lemonade
1/2 glass of brewed ice tea

To make 1/2 gallon of brewed ice tea, add 2 family bags of black tea to 4 cups of water and heat in the microwave for 4 minutes.  Let steep for 15 minutes.  Pour into 1/2 gallon pitcher and fill the rest with water.

We like strong tea and tea that is quickly heated.  It brings out the flavor.  Sun tea sounds romantic but it doesn’t bring out the flavor near as much as steeping it in really hot water.

Sounds refreshing! You can also zip it up a little and add sweet tea (Arnold Palmer) or zing it up by adding sweet tea vodka (John Daley). Either way it a refreshing southern drink!~Ames
