Tip #1 for Creative Tip Tuesday (Click for details to enter a tip)
I love using cake pedestals in decorating. I stagger heights better with these when I have them in an arrangement. They work well with domes and candles and they are particularly fun to stack on top of each other with a flower pot on top. Well, it is fun to put anything on top of them. That is my “real” tip of the day but let me just talk about arrangements for a minute.
My house is all about the arrangement of things. I am not a minimalist even if I threaten to become one at times. I think I would go crazy if only one carefully placed item was on a shelf. At first, I might feel so clean and streamlined but after awhile, I would just begin adding this and that and before long, it would be an arrangement.
I guess that is what I did when I started having kids. One just didn’t work for me and before I knew it, there were 4. I quickly took my husband to the vet since I couldn’t “control” myself when it came to little snuggly, sweet smelling bundles of joy, and put a stop to it. I had some moral issues with that afterwards. I am not Catholic but I do believe that God makes all babies so, I worried for a long time that I had limited His creativity. But, I digress.
Anyway, my third bundle of joy, who I will from now on refer to as Nurse M & M, told me that she would organize my china cabinet and make it appear more cohesive and clean. I submitted to her awesomely creative hand and she did just that. The only problem is that I have too much stuff that belonged to my grandmother or a great grandmother or that belongs to someone’s grandmother….teehee…and before long, I couldn’t resist the urge to add a couple of things.
Then I inherited my mom’s silver (who had it all just stuck in cabinets) and I HAD to add it all to the china cabinet because after all, silver makes so many good reflections. The next time Nurse M & M was visiting, she was a little perturbed that her creation had been “altered” but I just love to see all my things grouped together.. I guess I am just addicted to arrangements of lots of things.
Back to the real tip of the day…when I arrange these things, I like varying heights and sizes and textures and I love glass and silver. Well, I love reflections and light bouncing off of things. I like domes and apothecary jars where I can see “hidden” things that really aren’t hidden at all because I can see into their little worlds.
So, consider all these things…..reflections, light bouncing off, varying heights, various textures……when making an arrangement and then your arrangement won’t look just like a pile of junk but a carefully placed grouping of specialness.
Now, don’t be judging my silver that needs polishing. I just haven’t had the time. Maybe tomorrow….
Tip #2
My cousin, Susan, sent another tip and I thought I would pass it on too. She said if you are lining kitchen cabinets with contact paper and you don’t want to have to scrape it up later when you change it out, just contact the corners down. Leave the backing on the rest. This also takes a lot less time. Since my daughter just did her kitchen, I wish we knew about this a month ago.

Great tips! and…after all our military moves, and from my mom, I had learned to only peel the corners of contact paper in the cabinets.

) My hubby suggests that we need to “down-size” all the time! and actually, some of my “collections” are put away…(for when we eventually, move to our home in Kentucky.) And I would have loved, loved, loved to have more kiddies…but now, I am very excited to future grandbabies!
haha!!! I love “groupings” too! And I love “collections”
That was very sweet of Nurse M& M to help you out in your arranging…
I think that we are alike when it comes to enjoying things from our families…(and other vintage things from other families. heehee!)
Blessings & Aloha!
Thank you for stopping by!
I have a couple of posts about our home and in it you can see some of my “collections”…

Hi, I also love texture and light, use my silver every day, love reflected light and mirrors. I’m something of a minimalist, but I think our houses would like each other.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your comment on The Red Sweater. As it turns out, like your family, we have planned a celebration for our First Anniversary. Your words make me wonder about the synchronicity in life. I also lost my father and two brothers. Thanks again for visiting. I’ll look for you again sometime.
all the arrangements look great…….I hear you on the baby thing! I dont think there is anything better……
